All of us want a nice good sleep after a long exhausting day. However, not many of us can have it. Some of us are blessed with the ability to fall asleep easily. Some of us have to struggle very hard to get a deep sleep. Are you one of those people who are tossing and turning yourself around in the middle of the night for hours before you fall asleep? Isn’t there anything you can do about it?
There are things you can actually do. Here are few tips for making yourself fall into a nice deep sleep.
- Create a good sleep environment
If you want to have a nice sleep, you need to create an environment which is supportive and comfortable enough for you to sleep. Check your bed, is it large enough for you to stretch around? Does the mattresses soft enough not to cause your back to ache? Do you have enough pillows and are they soft enough for your neck? How about the sheet? Is the fabric soft and cozy enough for your skin?
Recognize the things that can make you fall asleep. What are the things that your body responds to? If you are a kind of person who can’t sleep with even a tiny single light, then make sure that your room is dark enough for you. If you are easily awake by the sound of a single drop of water, then avoid having a bedroom near the street. Temperature is an important key too. A too cold or too warm room does not make a good sleep environment. Adjust your air conditioner to the comfortable degree of temperature.
- Stay away from caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol
Caffeine and nicotine have the ability to keep you awake. Caffeine can be found in drinks like coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, and cocoa. Nicotine can be found in cigarette while some drugs contain both nicotine and caffeine. Drinking alcohol is not good for your attempt to fall asleep too.
- Sleep help products
Use sleep help products such as a sleep mask, a night light, or a sound machine. If you cannot make your bedroom to be in pitch black condition, cover your eyes instead with sleep mask. Sound machine is also another technology invention, which helps many people to fall asleep. Sound machine will produce sounds that can help you to sooth your mind, therefore, helps your brain to rest. You can choose to have a natural sound machine or a white noise machine according to your preferences. Natural sound machine creates sounds from nature such as waves crashing into shore or chirping crickets. White noise machine creates static and monotonous sound.
