The neverending quest for drivers

Just last week, I was asked by a colleague of mine to come over to his office and check out why some of his legacy devices are not working. It came about that because his office was cutting down costs, they had bought some refurbished computers and printers to use. They were delivered fine, however, when they were used, some of the software simply couldn’t work on these devices.

I looked over at the devices, first looking at the system settings and device manager and found that some of the sound drivers were not working well and were in conflict with other functions of the computer. I asked my friends whether there drivers for the devices, which he shrugged – typical of some refurbished devices.

Because these were legacy devices, some of the drivers were no longer supported by the manufacturers and I had to browse around on the net for them. It was a relief that by searching fot the term computer drivers and windows drivers, I was able to find all the required drivers and the devices managed to function properly then.
